I get people are blaming him - because it's the simple thing to do. But in all honesty, it's not his fault. When you want to play a possession based game. You either need a good ball playing defender like De Ligt, Timber of Lisandro we’ve had in the past. Or you need a good ball playing CDM like Frenkie or Blind who collects the ball from central defense. Problem is we don’t have an especially good ball playing defender, we don’t have a midfielder who drops back to collect the balls from defense. We’ve been playing possession based football in a long ball formation. It’s not uncommon for the nearest midfielder to be 20 meters up the field from our central duo. Forcing Sutalo to look for difficult passes forwards with a bigger chance of failure, a defender simply shouldn’t be forced to make. When you look how Croatia plays tactically. Brozovic will drop back to almost between the defenders. Sutalo and Gvardiol play short passes to him. And then Brozovic will look for the passes forward together with Modric and Kovacic. The defenders aren’t actually forced to find the midfield 20 meters up the field themselves with difficult passes only a decent ball playing midfielder could consistently deliver - like is the case at Ajax. This also shows in the statistics: he has way less clearances per game playing for Ajax probably due to the tactics, wanting him to find passing solutions in difficult situations. Passing options which quite frankly most of the time just don’t exist. His pass accuracy is quite a bit lower as well, being forced to try difficult passes. And he also plays a lot more long balls, as he’s being forced to look for options further forward. In my opinion we’ve tactically failed to provide what is a good player the support he needs to play to his strengths. Not a single defender would thrive in this tactical disaster class, even the likes of Araujo wouldn’t be able to hold up. He is only 23 years old, his first year outside Croatia. Playing next to a couple of teens who are next to useless. And somehow we expect him to turn into prime Puyol in a bad team, with bad tactics? If you look at this example from last sunday(pic). This is a situation where we’ve been in possession for 14 seconds already. Our acting DM is just casually walking in coverage from two men. Our RB just walked off to god knows where. Nobody provides passing options. He and Hato can’t keep passing to each other forever. Blind is the most underrated player in the Netherlands, he always needed to prove himself to the people in Holland. For me he is a Ajax legend and the smartest dutch player on the field.. people just don't see that and always see him as a boo man. What he did for Ajax I will never forget, I wish him the best at Bayern.

He's an aggressive tackler and a great build up player. With Juve's tactics he couldn't fully utilise those skills. However with Nagelsmann, it will be maximised. I think he'll fit Bayern like a glove. Great transfer.

He's a beast in the air, is very reliable on a 1v1, very good at tackling and blocking, very fast and strong, enough to control a tough situation as the last defender in a counterattack, can play on both sides or behind 2 stoppers, and is a good playmaker, tho he can improve on sending long balls. I hope the best for him, people only know to highlight errors, but he is a very complete defender, still so young and talented, and we recognize that. Being the replace of both Chiellini and Bonucci most of the games last season and do that well is not easy
