Lucas Paquetá charged with spot-fixing over four ‘deliberate’ bookings. A single breach if proven carries ban of between 6 months and lifetime. Judging by some of the clips he'll be lucky to play again.

With no CL to his name while managing a PL side, nobody can claim Arsene makes it into the top cut alongside SAF, Guardiola and Klopp. For me he sits in his own awkward tier just below the cream of the crop - Mourinho's in the same group for me. 3 PLs in 22 years without a corrupt juggernaut like City around is poor given Arsenal could very realistically have obtained 8 or 9. Liverpool would have had 3 in 9 years including 4 years of transitionary/rebuild seasons from mid-table, were it not for those cheating fucks. In fairness, both Klopp and Wenger suffered from the owners of their clubs being prudent fucks in the transfer market compared to their rivals. Klopp literally had his Liverpool side finish with a higher points tally than Wenger's best ever season in 4 different seasons. Klopp brought about concussion subs, 5 subs rather than 3, and spearheaded the tactical *necessity* for *all* teams in modern football to press. Wenger wasn't the first to bring in fitness and dietary monitoring/standards - this was first done by Newcastle and Blackburn - heck Fergie was doing it by 1995 before Wenger even came to Arsenal. The only thing he was first at was stopping his players eating chips during the season (and it's not something that's stuck around either, as players carb-load with potatos etc the night before games these days). Klopp genuinely changed the game for the better in terms of player welfare and influenced tactics globally, let alone in the PL.

Yeah, our players get downgraded after small dips in form but rarely get upgraded when they deserve it. Like Gakpo had a few bad games, got a downgrade but hasn’t had an upgrade now he’s back in form? Van Dijk no upgrade all season and Elliott still 77 is crazy. At least Bradley and Quansah have had decent upgrades this year but the rest of the team hardly get the rating they deserve

Not that interesting imho it's solved by selling most of what they have out on loan tbf. Harrison alone has a £20m clause if Everton stay up, Sinisterra already sold for £20m. Real Betis have an option on Roca, Roma have an option on Kristensen and an obligation on Llorente if he plays enough games. There's a couple of suitors for Aaronson as well. Realistically they'll only need to sell Summerville.
avatar
Yup - also this just creates more unemployment and will give more of the lower leagues our shitty refs The solution is to remove as much of the incompetent elements of VAR as possible through semi-automated offsides and a far more black and white, simplified rulebook on what's what. Change some personnel and also investigate referees for their allegiances/supporting clubs and ensure they never officiate a game of said club or their closest rival. It will never be perfect, but doing this will make it as close as it's going to get.

https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1790783046213410977?t=ewF7TMWWaX0oGl472fUKPw&s=19 i feel like this isn't the correct solution either. Problem isnt var its the incompetent referees.
avatar
They´re a young side, I can only see them get better. Especially if they get Gyokeres
avatar
As much as I hate Arsenal and wish for their demise, they're CB pairing is young and tactically astute. Their forwards are youthful and bring energy plus they have goals coming from their midfield. The only way that team fails is through poor management and recruiting. If they make the same mistake FSG did, by not building on the foundations of a successful season (2018-19) then those building blocks start to crumble.
avatar
Before the start of the season, I'd give it an 8/10. Now it feels more like a 6. Overall, I'd give it a solid 7/10. We should not underestimate how many changes were made, how many injuries we suffered from, the fact that Jurgen and the whole management are leaving, and, yeah, a good few games where the referees were just horrible. What makes the mark worse is mainly that I absolutely despise some of the performances. Sorry to be the negative one again, but what we played had nothing to do with football I expect from Liverpool at times. Not that I expect to win the league every year, but I do expect to play one of the most entertaining footballs. In so many moments, we were just incredibly dull, even from our star players or very expensive players. I hope that changes soon.
avatar
Matos really was an unsung hero of the Klopp era, it's his elite development plan that gave us Quansah, Bradley, Beck, Clark and McConnell this season alone.
avatar
You just know that there's going to be a heap of Liverpool players going there on loan next season. Kaide Gordon might be one. Lijnders football ideology is closely aligned with Slot's (they're good friends and came through the same classes for their coaching badges) so it could be beneficial in other ways than by merely looking at transfers.

I like how Macca commented on his mistake on instagram. It was a silly mistake but exactly this reaction assures me that he is a leader who does not hide away from it, takes personal responsibility and improves himself. He had a phenomenal season and finally is a player that even exceeded expectations and made the price tag an absolute bargain.
avatar
https://x.com/DeadlineDayLive/status/1790321047150997981 If this is true, it might be worth a gamble. 🤔
avatar
You are aware that he's not being asked to do that particular job for Nice though, he's an elite ball carrier and that's why Nice have him more advanced, having those skills in a deeper role are hugely beneficial for how Slot likes to play. Wieffer ain't coming, we're not going back and getting any of Slot's former players. However, exactly like Wieffer, Slot will turn a midfielder that has a big physical frame and good technical skills into his version of a CDM, Thuram could be the guy ahead of say Gravenberch for that role because he is always thinking defensively first.
avatar
No secret that I wanted him last summer. Last year of his contract next season, signed up with new agents and wanted to move last season. It's a perfect gamble for that price. I know there's some that'll say he's not a pure CDM and that we should sign someone like Ugarte or Palhinha instead, however we've got Slot coming in who made Mats Wieffer into a "Slot" CDM and the key aspects of that role involve good technical skills to create from deep, a big physical frame and the ability to cover a decent amount of ground. Add that to what is a good personality and I think he'd be be a great addition.

A Premier League boss has been granted a High Court anonymity order in a civil case against him for allegedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl. He is being sued for aggravated damages by a woman who says the offences took place two decades ago. A BBC investigation has already revealed the boss remains in position despite a police investigation over the alleged rape of a different girl, 15. The judge said the order was necessary for the "administration of justice". Wonder who this is…

We all know Salah isn’t as good in 1v1s anymore, and hasn’t looked great on the eye test recently, but the stats show he’s still in his prime.

Bruh this salah disrespect..... Hes creating the most chances in the team man. Hes just going through a bad phase now was absolutely class the first part of the season.

Real winning the UCL despite being the worst team on the pitch every knockout games they played , Liverpool and Arsenal starting the season strong to bottle the league to City in the last instant , Kane finishing trophy less the more things change the more things will ever stay the same right ?
avatar
God damn. He beat my club and even I'm not that salty. He's going to a Champions League final, let the man enjoy it. That's not immaturity, that's just celebrating a win like every other team would if they qualified for the UCL Final.
avatar
Barcelona can't afford to offer academy graduates a professional contract, there's not a hope in hell they'd be able to afford Darwin Núñez, calling them rumours is being generous.
avatar
He received vile comments till a level his family was targeted
avatar
About 20% of the time he gets tired and bored at having to defend as it is, 20% over a match almost every match is a lot of free chances he gives away. He gets away with it because he's so good on the ball, not that he should. Now your saying let's put him completely out of position?
avatar
The only problem is he’s quite prone to massive individual errors. That’s one of the reasons he’s not been giving many chances in the national team in the past. If he improves on that,he’s a brilliant player.

Yellow card to Trent for unsportsmanlike behaviour as the Ref wasn't ready, we played to the whistle but the Ref didn't like how it 'felt', Red card for Klopp too (for asking why they are so thick). VAR has a look and says it's right to disallow it. Dermot Gallagher in the studio afterwards: “They can, but don’t forget they have to go on what the referee says. “So the referee says ‘this is why I haven’t given it’, you look at the pictures. “He will say ‘I think he’s played it too quickly for my liking’ – you look at that picture, you can’t really argue with the referee there. “He’s in the perfect position and he waves it away immediately, says no.” Asked whether it would influence a referee differently had Trent taken the corner less ‘dramatically’, Gallagher agreed that was likely. “I actually think that, honestly,” he continued. “How he’s taken that corner has convinced the referee that he’s trying to gain an advantage. Because the referee’s got a perfect view. “If you look, the referee is as close as I am to you if you like, and he waves it away straight away. “I think that sells it in his mind, that he’s walked away then taken it himself.”

I'd say there is a difference between being guaranteed minutes and not given a chance in your predominant position. Normally I'd agree but Carvalho just was not given a chance. Only thing I don't know is how his behaviour is in training etc., but tbf to him, in Leipzig he again was not given more chances and with the likes of Xavi Simons it was clear that he would rot at the bench, bad choice from all involved imo.
avatar
I hope he gets his chances. His comments were not the best but I sort of get him - he was promised a position and game time, and did not get it. He lacked confidence and was played out of position. I still think he is a massive talent. Every thing he excels at makes him a great 10, not a winger, so imo his comments on Klopp were kind of justified..
avatar
He did still get a lot of hate, though. What's happened to Darwizzy is awful and shouldn't happen to anyone ever. He should, however, be called out for his poor performances, the same way Jota was called out during that 7 month period and at the start of this season. We were all saying Jota should probably be sold at the end of the season, before his upturn in form around January time. We were all saying that Nunez was one of the best in the league, during the start of 2024, then he went poor again. It's very up and down, always has been and always will be. And people get, rightly, called out for inconsistency. It's part of football Nunez has a lot to learn
avatar
No consideration given to how Liverpool do their business or in this market, who'd buy Núñez?
avatar
It's gonna be an interesting summer for transition. Arne Slot has a very talented squad at his disposal and it's up to him to decide what position is better for who. I heard he is a man who likes to experiment and give players new roles, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Trent, Szoboszlai, Gakpo or Salah playing new positions. Hope he is flexible and gives freedom to players whilst maintaining a rigid formation. Curious what will happen to Kelleher, if he stays as second gk or pushes for a move as Ali has his spot nailed on. Bradley looks set to rival Trent for the RB spot and on Calvin Ramsay a decision will be made (might be another loan). We need another senior CB, Van Dijk is getting older, Konate is injury prone, while Quansah and Sepp can't be relied upon yet. Endo, Bajcetic, Jones, Gravenberch, Tyler Morton will be considered for the pivot, Macca will alternate between DM and AM. Don't think it's enough though, another solid CM/DM is needed, someone to replace Thiago. For the 3 spots behind the striker, Harvey, Szoboszlai, Macca, Diaz, Gakpo, Jota, Salah, Fabio Carvalho, can all feature across those 3 spots, I think we're covered. Add Kaide Gordon and Ben Doak to that. Up front, well, depends on Nunez. He seems tailor made for Slot's 11, but decisions will be made. Jota, Salah, Danns are the other options. Overall, the squad looks fine, we're 3-4 signings away from a complete squad that could fight on more fronts. UCL will help us attract world class players and Edwards & co. will go for the best options at the right price. To sum it up, A CB, a CM/DM, a LB and a forward are needed, in this order of priority. Others will be decided if there are departures
