Need a certain amount of Homegrown and Academy trained players for UEFA competitions. Saying get rid of a player for no real benefit, there is no benefit to losing Joe Gomez, and replacing him with Geertruida doesn't make sense. Geertruida could equally be a replacement for Tsimikas, who is expected to leave. It'll have to be a big offer from a London based club for Liverpool to let him go and for Gomez to want to move. I can't see Chelsea, West Ham or Fulham being able to afford him, Arsenal and Spurs wouldn't buy him either, they've got their own targets and PSR concerns. Liverpool will listen to offers, no chance they'll accept a low offer.
avatar
Homegrown and academy trained, ideally he should be kept especially as he's so versatile.
avatar
If mainz survive relegation unfortunately its very very unlikely he comes back
avatar
I believe we need to get back Sepp van den Berg into our squad next season. I’ve been to most of Mainz 05‘s home games this year, and this man has been absolutely phenomenal for our defence. Mainz were on the verge of relegation, but the team has had a massive turnaround in the last couple of weeks. Sepp has really stepped up his game and has established himself as one of the leaders in the team. He’s also pretty damn fast considering his height. I‘m usually not the kind of guy for that, but I also managed to get a selfie with the lad and told him he belongs back at Liverpool 😂
avatar
Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg is leaving at the end of the season as well. From what Ive seen a top guy, will be missed. Wonder what is gonna happen with Taffarel, perhaps he is gonna stay? Would be cool if we made the right choices, like hiring set piece coach for example (we are one of few top clubs that dont have one)...
avatar
I always liked Karius and I’ll always defend him. But he was a 6/10 goalkeeper. I can think of 10 clubs with better keepers than him atm in the PL Mignolet was not good and I stand by it. His penalty saves made him overrated. Also a 6/10. People forget his decision making was poor and had little to no control on his box from corners
avatar
Nah, this is harsh on Migs and Karius. Mignolet wasn't amazing, but he was good. Had a glaring weakness being his positioning, but overall the guy was a 7/10 keeper. Karius was even better than Mignolet for that one season. He was unreal for us, save for the CL final which ruined him. He had the CL golden glove. There was some serious potential there
avatar
Worked with Karius and Mignolet... Tbf Alisson is a star on his own, but our goalkeeping department did lots of good work. Nurtured Kelleher from being a second choice within academy to a decent backup in first team, Jaros is doing well in Austria, Grabara has been good as well...
avatar
that guy got so much hate before we signed Alisson lol
avatar
Glad that the parade has been canceled. As much as Klopp deserves a statue and a proper goodbye, it was too good to be true. We made our expectations high based on what looked like a 10/10 season, but lets not forget this is the first rebuild season of the team, and we have not been always on fire even before the collapse. Top 4 and Carabao won in mad circumstances is a solid foundation. We have played well only in 30 % of time in the 2020s, lets hope that similarly to 2010s, the second part of the decade is more successful than the first...
avatar
Clearly you haven't seen us defend.

https://twitter.com/guardian_sport/status/1785259946273296706?t=lJeP5a6rctLMWa7JFiRjKQ&s=19 I want Everton to get relegated because they are shit, not because they might get a 9 point deduction for entering administration. Anyway, yet another highly entertaining chapter in the slow demise of Everton Football Club. Edit: Typical Everton to win 3 games in a week and then go bust. https://twitter.com/joe_thomas18/status/1785250639624155568?t=Xtju3TuRWd2s8mcVrl_xUQ&s=19

avatar
Nah Arsenal fans will be unbearable, and none cares if city wins another title.
avatar
Makes sense, still need 2-3 additional players in my opinion. Hopefully UEFA and the Premier League do the sensible thing and expand the amount squad size for each competition considering the amount of games we'll be playing.
avatar
Difficult to say, ideally we could do with the next Virg and put him straight in next to the current one. Quansah is great but inexperienced and Ibou hasn't fully taken control of one of those starting spots. Personally im hoping for someone who can arrive and swiftly make the position their own. Any ideas?
avatar
These refs are paid as fuck.
avatar
We won’t. The spurs will score the first 15 Minutes. Then we will just fuck around and not win.
avatar
It's not hating, their tactics are just really spamming 6'4" players and then sitting deep. If you believe this is amazing football, then football is dead
avatar
No they play horrible football lol
avatar
Are you even watching this game? Arsenal is being dominated by Spurs.
avatar
The attack is wildly out of form or injured all at the same time, it's not broken and in need of major fixing, they don't need to be purged and nor will they be. They key area that needs fixing is at CB, if the last few weeks have shown us anything it should be that we're feeling the loss of Matip more than we're acknowledging. We really need a solid option for CB that is also fit enough and experienced enough to step in and step up when required and doesn't need babysitting from Van Dijk like Quansah and Konaté do.
avatar
Don't make the mistake of looking at a player in a different system and thinking that they wouldn't suit us. Koopmeiners played as a CDM for Slot at AZ Alkmaar, he'd understand the system and tactics that are being implemented just like Geertruida would, Koopmeiners played his best football under Slot and has been previously linked with a move to Liverpool. Now personally I think both links are lazy, purely because both have played for Slot previously, neither player will sign for Liverpool. I don't think massive sales will take place or that we'll be signing plenty of players in the next window as it's been hinted that a lot of our problems will be solved by academy players and players out on loan. Watch Beck, Morton, Van den Berg, Jaros and Carvalho get serious chances next season, whilst we'll only look to sign 2-3 players at the most. A CB, a CDM/CM (no idea who for either position) & a versatile forward are my best guesses for incomings, Beier from Hoffenheim looks ideal for a Slot system because of his versatility and with his release clause he'd be undervalued and coming from an unfashionable team and on low enough wages. Looking at it as logically as possible we already have a new manager in so it doesn't make sense to make any more major changes on top of that for next season. We'll be back to being smart with our money.
avatar
Good video but I was under the impression Slot plays a 4-2-3-1 and not a 4-3-3? This pretty much suggests we’ll be playing similar tactics attacking wise and I don’t think we should do that (Salah and Diaz as wide forwards with Gakpo as a false 9).
avatar
Yet you created this account yesterday?
avatar
Absolutely NO his end product make Diaz look like Prime CR7 great dribbler but so bad decision making
avatar
I may be looking way too much into this and we probably don't know the full details. I kinda understand Salah being upset at not being brought up earlier to rescue the game but fam, there's a reason why you're benched in the first place and it's not an injury...
avatar
Give Giroud sole respect man. All time top scorer for France, wc winner, UCL winner, etc
avatar
Checkout the video below , This guy has explained perfectly how Slot will actually setup our squad from next season , according him TAA could end up playing RW/RM https://youtu.be/HxzWaKvdhF0?si=BY1RmqVWAJ4n2mem
avatar
I think he’ll be given one more season and Slot may want to see him up close. If still the same story he’ll be shipped out summer 2025. In other clubs he would’ve been sold but we seem to be more patient than others. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.
avatar
Think its a good thing myself👍
avatar
Of course he'll still have a say in player recruitment, just not the final say. Transfer committee situation again, which makes sense imo.
avatar
Man ffs you're missing the point only arne slot will have a say in tactics. He just wont have a say in player recruitment.
avatar
Aston villa and Spurs (if they win all the postponed games) are 6 points behind, we have to play with both. We can lose the top 4 if they don't wake up
avatar
Relax klopp's gone in the summer and salah will follow him. They're both done here. Lets appreciate what they gave us all these years.
avatar
Brother relax Jesus Christ have a snickers no way you're still going on about Salah.
avatar
and btw Salah's brother has turned his back, his daughter isn't speaking to him now, his wife admonished him too and she's his rock.
avatar
The pile on having a go at Salah is pathetic, who's form has dipped since his longest injury spell out at LFC. He's a winner and gave his all to take us back to the top. Don't disrespect.
avatar
Salah is fine, he's on the way down from being the best Left footed forward in PL history, and he doesn't like it. Who would after being that good, he can still score even with his overall game decreasing, but our team has lost it's head.
avatar
Salah is a great bloke and a club legend. We hear hardly anything about what happens in team training sometimes and especially in the locker-rooms so that was nothing much, today was simply some frustrations showing.
avatar
no prem since 2013
avatar
These players are jokes and I have my doubts about Slot. Very dark times.
avatar
What's happened there
avatar
Why'd he blow the whistle there?
avatar
Hopefully Arne knows how to give a halftime team talk, because he’ll have to do it every week.
avatar
Why tf is Gravenberch trying to score a backheel goal when the score is 1-1? He’s having a good match so far but fix your ego man
avatar
Gravy you cannot be serious brother
avatar
Personally I'm over it. I'm not excited about him but I'm also not trashing him.
avatar
I do agree, but I'd suspect any manager - not just Slot - to do his due diligence and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad. And this is what I am actually confident about - because he is a new force with new ideas that is not afraid to rise up to the challenge, and we are going to have a very competent board. My own concerns in terms of the team are more like the turbulences - I dont think that suddenly everyone would want to leave or whatever, just that there are going to be plenty of uneasy discussions regarding some players' future.
avatar
some fair points, dont get me wrong. But as you say, those are concerns/questions, not really a reason to say "oh wow what a shit appointment". When you look at our players, at our identity, at our new board, even our academy and how they play, Slot is an absolute match. As for your questions, just my opinion: 1) intense press - yes, he does press a lot, but our best years came also when we pressed a lot. BUT, and that is important, as someone already broke down here - his teams are not naive pressers, and he knows how to sit deeper. The same applies for the attacking play - even from what Ive seen, his teams actually do much more fluid possession based attacks than we currently do. 2) Trent - IMO will remain a RB with special permissions going forward and with our shape changing in various ways throughout games. His skillset apart from passing and shooting is not really suited to a CM (for example he is horrible on the turn, has troubles with a player marking him 3) shot conversion - how is that even Slot's fault or whatever? Like would you say THANK GOD FOR NAGELSMAN, NOW DARWIN ACTUALLY DECIDES TO START SCORING GOALS? Dont think it works like that. 4) late subs are a myth from what ive read (just check livescore). Very often does subs around 60th minute. 5) pace and schedule - we will have to see, but within a season every manager seems to get to know the league.
avatar
Curious.. anyone else come on sofifa squads and start replacing players as part of the coping process after bad losses/performances lol
avatar
Finally posting thoughts from the derby: 1. We lost 3 potential trophies in 3 weeks, madness 2. Klopp’s last games in FA Europe and United and Everton were all disasters, I just hope we win at home his last game 3. Somehow we were playing better ball with our 13+ injuries, very confusing 4. We make every-team we play against look so much better it’s maddening, we make it so easy for teams and hard our ourselves, been that way all season 5. Another game of over 2xG, without a goal 6. Next 4 games will show who truly wants to be here post-klopp, we’re playing for nothing but pride at this point 7. This Liverpool docuseries is gonna be one hell of a watch, don’t know if I even want to see the behind the scenes of this period
avatar
1. They say he gives many chances to youth academy players, wrong rarely gives them minutes. 2. Great threat from set pieces, if you get 27 corners a game you will of course score more corners than other teams. 3. Defending set pieces has seen 0 improvement in the last 3 years, could be a problem in England. 4. Doesn’t sub before minute 75 ever, even when players are playing like my grandma(she dead) Is he ready for Liverpool, yes but he isn’t jesus
avatar
No it was Gotze over Mane and Zielinski over Wijnaldum
avatar
Yeah everything went mostly well thanks for asking.
avatar
Exam go well?
avatar
It is the best for both to part ways after this season. Klopp is burnt out and his tactics don't work as good as it's used to do anymore
avatar
https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1783472208507011276?t=yBVEDMUZ9hXapauTccW14w&s=19 As much as my patience is being worn down by Darwin and his lack of consistency, at the very least he's fit. Nkunku has the same levels of fitness at Chelsea as a child coming in for the day from the Make a wish Foundation, there's been healthier corpses. Whatever you think about Núñez or Nkunku now is irrelevant, there's a bigger message from this article and it's the transfer committee is back and Hughes will have final say, so expect more Mané and Firmino type of signings and no more Diaz, Mac Allister or Núñez types of signings picked by the manager. We'll be more than likely reducing the wage bill in a big way this summer and signing cheap almost unheard of or unfashionable players.
avatar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrSE9CyQcUY Sturridge has it spot on. Nunez needs to take accountability and look at his weakness. He knows he has bad finishing. He knows it and he needs to improve on it. It isn't good enough that he can think he will start each week with finishing like that. If I was him and I was serious about being a top footballer, I'd be hammering home shots from inside the box every single session for however long it takes until it is natural and it just becomes second instinct. If he still does that and can't score, then he has no hope
