Dont think he will join us... Madrid will definitely call again. Additionally, we need to focus on getting an LCM, and actually, we need a backup for Saliba, proper proper backup. He played every minute of the PL this season! That's not possible forever. We need another RCB thats in his mould
avatar
not bad but we desperately need to focus on fullback depth

Yes, he's shown that he's loyal. On the other hand he's keen on this job as he's had two interesting already. It's perhaps not ideal that he's not well-known as a big part of the DoF job is to convince players to join. Ashworth had a big reputation as the best DoF in England. So this would be a huge step up for Dougie, higher transfer fees and more well-known players. With that said, he seems to have a superb track record with his championship signings/loans. Eze, Olise, Gallagher, Guehi & Wharton just to name a few
avatar
My only worry with him is his head-loss. Has the exact temperament Arsenal fans thought Xhaka had.
avatar
I'd still bet he ends up at City. Seems like the best and most natural Gundogan replacement they could ask for. As nice of a player as Kovacic is, he's not really close to what Gundogan is. Think Guimaraes would be perfect for them. Only thing is if they want Paqueta as well. Obv it's City and money isn't a huge deal for them, but they usually don't go OTT on transfer fees, so spending close to 200m on 2 players may not be possible. Altho considering this may be the summer Silva finally leaves... might be doable.
avatar
Pretty good window with the right profiles. CB/LB depending on how Mikel views it. Maybe a homegrown name in there to replace the suspected outgoings - Rams Eddie Reiss
avatar
But according to Carragher they’ve overachieved lmao. No one acted like this when we fell away towards then end when most didn’t even predict we’d get top 4. I remember G Nev saying that Arteta’s ceiling at Arsenal is 4th
avatar
Arne bringing Hancko and Wieffer with him would make me a happy man.
avatar
Forward and midfield will be priorities this window. Along with a defender (Diomande hopefully) and a backup GK when Ramsdale inevitably leaves And yea, apparently we’re trying to convert him to an inverted LB. Has the physical qualities. If he breaks through in that role Dorgu won’t happen
avatar
I don’t see us getting two defenders this window. That said, Dorgu in January of 2025 or Summer 2025 would be a good investment (and Zinchenko replacement).
avatar
I'm not against Watkins. Leao or Williams would be my choice with that money, because Martinelli doesn't have it in some big games. Jesus can play on the right and through the middle, and the striker market doesn't seem to be there presently, but I basically agree that a left CAM/CM is a bigger need with ESR and Fabio not seeming to be it, rather than solely striker. Musiala counts as home grown from memory, my earlier unrealistic suggestion has been him or Wirtz. K Thuram would've been my solution to this years ago. Can play next to Rice and Odegaard. Patino is seemingly years away, but I'd still like to see it tried. Svanberg years ago was the type of player I meant, someone who knits things together and is not just a high-end "water carrier" but also uber versatile, Arteta seems to view that slightly differently than I do. Camavinga was the dream. Rather than a mythical top 3 striker in the world to fix everything basically they only need to be a medium term upgrade on Nketiah and a long term one on Jesus. So, a winger that can work off both sides and a left cm is my answer. Nico Williams/Leao & K Thuram (But it'll be Zubimendi).
avatar
Amorim is actually probably the most similar manager to Klopp in world football The only difference is the shape of the lineups and some small tweaks from a footballing perspective Amorim's a complete media darling in Portugal like Jurgen is (most of the time) here Amorim has arguably a stronger track record with youth/young players
avatar
Oooo, I like Adebayo, even if it's just one letter away from a certain someone that shall not be named on this page. Nah, but he looks like a good PL 9. Huge, strong and I like his touch. Good in the box, looks like a strong finisher... he really caught my eye in the beginning of the season, and now looks to have really adjusted nicely to PL level.
avatar
Yeah his grandad was a Scottish international who played for Leeds and his dad same through the Leeds academy. He’s a huge talent I hope he gets capped at u21 level soon.
avatar
Exactly. Which is why I said signing Havertz this upcoming summer would’ve been better (and signing a LCM this summer would’ve been more suitable, or even just a Partey replacement).
avatar
Leao - best player here by a long shot, clear upgrade on Martinelli as well imo Toney - fits us like a glove Vlahovic - underrated, idc if he chose Juve before Isak - bit overrated, the aesthetics are nice tho Zirkzee - tall Jesus, aesthetics very nice Martinez - decent Kolo Muani - stay away Gimenez I don’t know enough about
avatar
The thing is I don’t hate Dier, I hate the fact that he stayed at this club until 2024 when he should’ve been sold in 2019 or 2020. Poor club management creates toxicity.
avatar
I do agree with you But dragusin has been our main target and not a panic buy, we've been scouting him leading up to the january transfer window.
avatar
I mean with this market we can't be too choosey about it though. 25m+5m is not cheap but it is necessary under our circumstances. Dragusin makes sense though since he was teammates with Bentancur and Kulu at Juve. Also, he fits the bill, I think he can prove himself. Ange wants him so I would back him up no matter the price. I mean it is not like Levy and ENIC have been very generous to our club over the years, this signing is still an echo of their fucked up. We will see what he can do for now, if he does not cut it then we can always look for another or promote our youths, our academy has been doing very well lately so would be nice to see someone make it to the team. Also, people were not so keen about Vicario back then, now he is one of the best in PL form wise.
avatar
Onana transfer will be more useful than meets the eye. Rice is our only physical midfielder. Onana takes the duel/defensive burden off him. He’s a transition monster bc of his length and size. Really fast for a guy of his size. And although his technical ability isn’t his biggest strength, it is more than good enough to fit into the side. His size and aggression in the air is massive on set pieces on both sides of the ball, where we have been struggling massively on the defensive side this season. Best of all, we can finally start alleviating the burden of playing LCM on Havertz. PL proven is the cherry on top. Really really good transfer, only thing that can make it better is if we supplement it with a more technical midfield signing in the summer to replace Jorginho (like Zubimendi).
avatar
People here think I praise Arsenal and defend them no matter what. No, I have big big issues with our dynamics this season. I have been very vocal that I don't believe that Havertz should be an LCM in our system, it throws things off. Zinchenko relied on Xhaka a lot for cover when he inverted, Havertz simply is not that kind of player. Failure to replace Xhaka has plagued us big in my opinion. It's also a big reason we see Martinelli suffering- he tracks back a lot more intensely now that Zinchenko has a lot less cover, just Rice. Havertz also is not a passer, Xhaka was- point is, Martinelli is creating all of his own chances, he's got to beat the lines, beat his man, in order to even get a cross in, and he gets doubled teamed. That's a lot of work. I believe in our system, Havertz MUST be a Striker, he can be a target man, danger from crosses and set pieces, and he's not slow either. Finishing capacity yet to be seen, but from his Leverkusen and even some his Chelsea goals he has shown good finishing ability. I believe that Saka does not need Odegaard with him on the right side anymore- it's not helping him at all. Saka wants a overlapper- that isnt Odegaard's game, and Odegaard's relationship with Rice is not as fruitful as with Partey's. I believe this is where the likes of Vieira and ESR need to be introduced at RCM to Saka, as ESR and Saka have a very very dynamic partnership, just watch them in 2021! We got the best out of both then. Our system though has proved to be reliable, most of the time we are in control of matches. Partey is ABSOLUTELY unreliable, has to be said and yes I think so too he should have gone in the summer. What good is Partey doing for us if he is injured at least half the season most seasons? LCM is DESPERATELY needed, if not, worst case scenario, recall that Patino kid, recall Lokonga from Luton, let's see our LCM options. Havertz for me needs to be an option at Striker.
avatar
This is a very excellent analysis of the situation.
avatar
The main difference between us and the other teams is that we have all timers in our squad. Alisson, VVD, TAA and Salah are all in the discussion (should not even be anymore) for best in their position in the PL era. As long as they are playing well, we will stay way above the level of the other teams except City. City have their core of KDB-Rodi-Haaland, the other teams don't even have half of this quality. So even if the other players are not in great form, this core of 4 players can carry us to different titles, they have done it before. Surronding them, we have enough quality to fight for the PL title and get it at the end imo.
avatar
My uninformed opinion is that they've both peaked in serie A. Osimhen will probably have more fitness issues outside of Italy and Leao will go somewhere else and be okay but not amazing. So, I broadly agree with you.
avatar
can play both sides as well
avatar
think they need a back up to kamara
avatar
New back up keeper bc Olsen not great and good to play it safe. New Right back, Cash is great but hardly a full back, need a defensive wing back to rotate him with. New DM to rotate with Kamara, probably sell Dendoncker who isn't getting game time and not reliable enough. I'd say sell Traore as well and looks like we're stuck with Zaniolo until the End of the season who can Bench warm if when Ramsey is fully back. TLDR Back up keeper Defensive left back DM Maybe another midfielder or forward.
avatar
He's deceptively strong and he's certainly quick. Honestly I think his physical style/level is perfect for his skillset. Just needs to iron out his decision-making - sometimes he slows down play when he shouldn't, or he doesn't receive a pass aggressively enough. Of course I love him and he's the best player I've seen at the club since JB, but if he were to take it to the next level I think those are the things he'd have to work on
avatar
He is long term going to be an 8, his best games came at that position. Everton home, Newcastle away.
avatar
Jones he'll play the 6 though, him and Thiago are the only midfielders we have who can tackle. Actually Jones can tackle too tbf but he's not a 6.
avatar
I like that Gasiorowski dude, try to lower the price from the 20m RC, get him and do sort of the Saliba treatment with him. I get that he's probably not going to be anything more than LCB and Kiwior isn't even 1y into his Arsenal career + we got Gabriel but we have seen Kiwior play RCB too. We don't know what the future holds so I say go for it. We also need to start making those Martinelli/Marquinhos types of deals that sometimes work, sometimes don't but end of the day you're not losing much if you try.
avatar
Polish father but Spanish mother. Choose to play for young Spain national teams.
avatar
but is he really that underwhelming in raw goal involvements? he has 5g+1a in 15 games, and last season 15g+8a in 45 games. I wouldn't be so hard on him, dips in form happen. you could be right, but let's see how he finishes the season first.
avatar
Longest tap-in of all time
avatar
I hope tables will turn before the Euro's. Still can't understand why we can't have a decent striker after we had van Persie, van Nistelrooij, Makaay, Kluivert, Bergkamp...
avatar
great box to box midfielder, very strong and makes great tackles defensively, but also has some wicked long shots. not sure why EA has him as a rm in game, he doesn't play on the wings
avatar
Key players are Morsy, Davis, Broadhead, Burns, Williams is fast becoming one playing at RB and the most key is Chaplin, the man should be 74/75. As I have listed mostly wide players it kind of explains the style. Hard press of the ball and then get it to the wings where Burns who is not the most talented is rapid. I read we are the quickest team in transition of all 92 league clubs. Davis is like a B-Tech TAA with his assists. Our player ratings are an insult to be honest. You guys are out and out the strongest in the league having players that would be stars in any of the other 23 teams not even making the bench but we have IMO the best young manager in the country who gets the very best out of the players he has.
avatar
Greaves would be a good alternative to Doyle if we cant get him. They have a similar profile.
avatar
I think the bigger issue is that we're too reliant on Rashford and the LHS in general. Notice how almost every chance we create involves Rashford and is from the left. Rashford hasn't been anywhere near good enough this season for sure but I think the bigger issue is that the RHS is non-existent more often than not. Rashford's issue rn is that he's trying too hard to be our main goalscorer and creator at the same time. Reduce the reliace on him by sorting out the RHS and you'll get more out of him and the team will improve
avatar
It's not his job to scout
avatar
possibly if we had stayed at the prem, it'd be hard to keep up with the rest of the league and their financial spending with relegation, we have a year to rebuild under a new manager before we return to the prem with a fresh new look

Passports that are getting issued now are in some ways a result of colonialism, part of a colonial legacy. There's free movement and greater voting freedoms between citizens living in either the UK or Ireland. The rent is mad because it's a completely unregulated market and most TD's (Irish version of an MP) are also landlords so they don't have the desire to change it. NIMBYISM is the main reason why transport is so poor relative to other European cities and a botched 2 tier health policy (public/private healthcare services) is why our health service is nearly as bad as the post Brexit NHS. Most of the bigger issues are genuinely fixable within 10-15years, there's just no political will to do so.
avatar
We get a lot of that money but it's mainly going to repay debt from the Celtic Tiger crash of 2008/09. We spend more money on healthcare per capita than any other country in the world but unfortunately we're tied into a two tier healthcare system and a lot of bad provider contracts for the foreseeable future. It's an easy enough fix but hands are tied and there's very little political will at the moment to solve the issues.
avatar
And we are More balanced with Rice It’s win win I guess Bitches
avatar
Nah - wolves, everton & luton look shitter then us (luckily)
avatar
I'm not blaming them ? Just stating what happened
avatar
I agree everything around him was last minute, Bayern came in too late for him
avatar
Up until the end of last season that was the formation Liverpool would go to when they ran out of ideas and needed a win So yeah that is possible, everyone knows what to do And I personally like it because Liverpool play that way when they are all out attack
avatar
BVB boss Watzke recently said that Terzic is the most loved trainer since Klopp, and also declared that he is unsackable. Apparently this is all you need to be trainer at BVB, tactics and football knowledge are not required since they have been basically absent since his tenure started.
avatar
Oh I see that I miss read your comment How do you mean Grav is bad "OFF" the ball? He wins tackles and headers, he is a physical player... Do you mean positioning? If so can you elaborate?
avatar
Although I have faith in Klopp to make him a beast, I really hope we don’t sign Gravenberch. If you want someone of that profile, sign Khephren Thuram or Manu Kone but don’t go for the player openly complaining about his minutes when he has a lazy attitude. No player is entitled to minutes, and I’m sure every player in the Liverpool squad knows that. I want players like Endo who aren’t complacent and are ready to put in the work on the training grounds to earn their minutes. As far as the player is concerned… no work rate, no engine or physicality, and no positional discipline. Good player technically but nothing you can’t find on the market without all the drawbacks. Personally, I hope we get one more midfielder and a center half but I’m unsure as to whether or not we will bring in anyone else this window. In midfield, Doucoure still remains top of the list for me. If we want a number 8, I’d like us to go big for Barella, Thuram, or Kone.
avatar
I think Coman is better overall, so i'd play him
avatar
Don't worry, FSG said "Attack and Inshallah"
avatar
Edozie was impressive since his first premier league debut last season , not suprised his Will be gonna insane this season at Championship
avatar
would be a massive window, potentially a few more loans to replace outgoing players and we'd be set for championship glory

Would everyone agree that if we could sell Partey and replace him with Caicedo (if we can afford him) we should do it in a heartbeat? Not considering any of the logistics of getting either deal done, strictly from a squad building perspective.
avatar
Doesn’t help when before the 21 tournament Aidy Boothroyd says “ it’s the Impossible job” basically making excuses for failure before the team lands, he was a shit coach who used the excuse of “ my job is just to produce players for the seniors not to win tournaments “ this piece of shit was in charge of the England U21’s talking like that complete wanker always hated him being in that job for as long as he was FA decision.
