To be clear, Ramos is a madrid legend. But defensively he was no match for Varane or pepe, worse than Hierro. His aerial play is possibly the best in history and for the goals he scored with that ability he gets a lot of credit (deserved), plus he had a good ability to get the ball out of the defensive line. But in terms of defensive skills, he always tried to resort to fouls, he was often badly positioned and was often outplayed too. There are videos of like 20 minutes of players beating ramos to the mark or dribbling.
