Some players just stand out from the games I watch, then I do a lot of background check from different statistic pages. But I have to admit I have not seen enough Augsburg games this season. Right now Augsburg does not have the club’s brightest times, last seasons have been expectedly poor. I’d say one of the biggest reasons is that Augsburg as a brand won’t give an extra value to the players. We have many names throughout the years who have performed insanely good and if they had been in a team like BvB, Frankfurt or Leverkusen then their value and transfer fee would have been doubled. This was the case with players like Hinteregger, Hitz, Klavan, Bobadilla, Max, Stafylidis and so on. Only Baba was a big fee player (who sadly has flopped). But as our players won’t sell for much we also don’t attract many big names. So sometimes we have to accept with more mediocre players to come to the club (no offense but players like Koubek, Suchy and Schieber). And many of the mediocre looking players turn out great (Gruezo, Niederlechner, Gregoritsch, Hahn). But in the last seasons the transfers have not actually been bad, we have gotten Iago, Pedersen, Winther, Dorsch, Oxford, Gumny, Vargas, Gikiewicz, Zeqiri and Pepi (the last one being a huge gamble but lets see). Our main issues on the field lie in creating goalscoring opportunities and also defending counters, especially individually skilled players coming at our goal. So our problems lie on and off the pitch but I personally have faith in our manager and current team, next year should be better (as always).
