Nah, it's more complex than that. Wilfried Zaha hasn't been an easy player to accommodate on the Ivorian national team for the past 7 years, under 5 different managers. His talent is undeniable, at the club level, but on the national team he's had maybe 5 good matches in over 30 appearances for Les Elephants. Take that into account and the fact that his conduct, the special treatment he would receive and his body language showed a player detached from the rest of the group and you'll see that keeping Zaha on the squad would have been a major disservice to creating a positive atmosphere where the squad could build good team chemistry. Besides, Ivory Coast have a decent amount of players that play the same post as Zaha. These players range from Simon Adingra, Jeremie Boga, Jonathan Bamba and an up-and-coming Oumar Diakite from Stade de Reims. Perhaps, Wilfried Zaha's market value and talent exceeds the names mentioned but what gives these players the edge is that they're better 'team players' as opposed to just individual talents.
