here in the states you can usually just go to the office of wherever a league operates and start your own team. I also got asked to play on sunday league teams via pickup games. Make a facebook and your city probably has a page for pickup matches here in America my county has a page like that I'd be shocked if in England your city doesn't have a facebook page for pickup games

Just say that and where you're comfortable playing, chances are he'll ask where you have played before, tell your mate to do the same. Yeah I was pretty much always a defender, was just someone who always up further to win the ball up the pitch but I'm too small so the manager just made me a full time defender. Ironically, I'm 5'6 but I've scored 13 headers over my last 4 seasons lol.

I had all that and I was humbled lol, turned into a defender then which I don't mind but it's great fun in all fairness 5 a side doesn't come close to 11 a side. Sounds like you would be better suited centrally but if you're not tall or strong, you may be pushed out wide instead. Don't think fullback is out of order too, sounds like you would be suited there. Manager will ask where you're better suited, you give your answer then he'll see how you fare then play you where he think you may benefit him more. Don't rule out anything basically because end of the day, bit of fun
