Fair play to Liverpool, you deserved the points 100%

(An Opinion Piece that isnt from me) Trent predominantly overlapping and staying wide made a huge difference. The underlapping right wingback was part of Pep Lijnders' system that he used in NEC. It didn't work there and it doesn't work for us. Not only does that system reduce Trent's effectiveness on the pitch, it also forced Salah out wide when he's at his most dangerous being able to cut in. Perhaps it requires a box-to-box no.8 at peak fitness to make it work, linking Trent and Salah and falling back to cover for Trent's runs - I'm not sure, but the coaching staff should have identified a while ago that we don't currently have one. Hendo has aged, and Elliott doesn't have the same defensive output. TLDR: Bellingham is the solution and would make us MASSIVELY better.
avatar
Great. Looked like 2018 again at times.
avatar
Now this a fair take
avatar
He could have 0/10 game and pull off a goal, bicycle kick or something. We had a rare gem in our side for so long, but at least we made some money off him
avatar
I mean Ik Sadio leaving isn't the reason of the problems the team's having. But I miss him so much😭
avatar
Let's hope they're legally blind.
avatar
Everybody laughed when I wore my Arthur Melo shirt to work every day. Well whose laughing now

The best midfielder itw is back!! time to show levels.

In our peak years of the past four decades, we had owners who didn't invest a thing while the competition has now been charged with 100 counts of distorting their financials. And we still won everything, and came within a point of winning two more times. We're in the doldrums now, but what Klopp and this team did was amazing.
avatar
Well, it helps being environmentally sustainable when you don't plan on doing short-haul flights to Europe next season
avatar
Liverpool becomes the first Premier League club to become environmentally sustainable. That's actually really cool if you ask me.
avatar
Edwards wanted Botman and guimaraes. Also not giving Henderson an extension. https://s3a.sofifa.net/b201714695b40aa607c52471a1a937535518373a.jpg

Abramovich wanted a way to legitimize himself outside of being Putin’s first major supporter lol. It worked wonderfully for 20 years
avatar
Didn't lose 0-5 at home and they are still in the Champions League... So, no, not really.

This window keeps drawing my interest even though I normally avoid transfer news. Hearing about Chelsea and Arsenal needing to go nearer to £90m for Caicedo. Seriously, I think it's time that UEFA and national bodies come together and set some objective standards for footballer valuations in Europe. Because the subjectivity is distorting the market. I don't think people know how much damage deals like Jack Grealish for £100m has done to the Prem. Now everyone must overpay, or go without. There's no longer any meaning behind a: '£20m player' or a '£50m player' or a '£80m player'. You used to be able to tell right away what category most footballers fall into. Now negotiations go like this: Interested party: How much for him? Selling party: How much have you got? A few universal standard metrics, shared across Europe is required: Age = £Xm, Appearances = £Xm, Injury record = £Xm, Discipline and fines history = £Xm, Goals/passes/challenges/clean-sheets etc = £Xm. This gives a starting point at the very least. Then all the subjective add-ons can be added afterward. Valuing intangible assets is a nightmare. At least tangible assets have some sort of accounting standard. But with player registrations, it's far too volatile. This is why the concept of a European Super League simply won't die. Mainly because of this and the silly contracts being banded about. Despite UEFA and fans continuous objection the super clubs just go back to the drawing board and reformat it until they get a yes. For as long as we can't get the market under control, a super league looks the most likely way to sustain this nonsense. And nothing will annoy the fans more than the idea of a league for the rich, without any relegation or promotion.

Hopefully Uncle Scrooge type, bathing in vault full of money, otherwise it wont help us even though I love all of the suggestions

Is it me or did our injury situation become consistently worse ever since our former team doctor Andy Massey left the club and was by Jim Moxon in 2020 Since that change we had massive amounts like never before of muscular injuries in the squad The 2020/21 was disaster with Thiago, Hendo, Fabinho, Matip, Gomez, Jota and Bobby having been injured over a longer period(s) more or less. 2021/22 this was not a too big problematic issue tbs although there were also some muscular injuries here and there (understandable when playing until the final in every 4 competitions), but then comes this season which pretty much reminds me on 20/21 season again with Diaz, Jota, Firmino, VVD, Matip and Hendo & Nunez (to a certain extent) being injured over longer periods of the season without any external influence, all again muscular injuries. It's definitely not the only season for our disastrous performances this season but I think except only looking at new players that we need we should also question our medical and training staff too

I cannot emphasize this point enough; QIA isn't investing in Liverpool. QIA is shorthand for the Qatari-Saudi consortium that is looking to invest in Liverpool. QIA is supporting the bid in the same way that the IDA (Irish Development Authority) would support a bid for Twitter to increase jobs in Ireland. It's partial separation, indirect investment but definitely not owned by the State.
avatar
I don't know why people keep having this same stupid argument, literally nobody should have a problem with ‘Qatari’ or 'Saudi' private owners. Being brought by the actual State of Qatar or Saudi Arabia, however is a whole different discussion. Acting like it’s all under the same umbrella is dangerous and deliberately misleading. State ownership is bad whether we participate in it or not, it's ruined the game entirely and I'd rather not see Liverpool become part of the problem. Private businesses and owners are fine no matter where they are from, State ownership is not ok ever.
avatar
The future is pretty obvious. We won't bring any other midfielder this window, we'll just rely on what we have. We will keep on playing Keita-Bajcetic-Thiago for a few games (against Brighton, then Wolves). They'll start the Merseyside derby too, but a bad tackle will make Keita get off the pitch with a bad injury which will keep him on the sidelines until late April. Bajcetic-Fabinho-Thiago will start away at Newcastle, but given the amount of time and the pressure of playing against a top 4 club, Bajcetic will succumb to pressure and perform badly, only to be hooked at HT for Henderson. Then we start Henderson-Fabinho-Thiago against Real. Again. Assuming Thiago doesn't get injured, otherwise we can see Elliott, Ox or Milner back in midfield.

Ajax need a manager. Only one man can save that club and restore it to greatness. Pep Ljinders this is your time
avatar
Downvote me all you like, but I still think Gakpo is gonna come good. Your whole team is playing shit, can’t expect a new young forward to hit the ground running in these conditions. Next year when you’ve got a new midfield he’ll score lots I think.

Had to do a double check at the table when they said we're just halfway through the season. All the games that've gone on till now with no int. break made it seem like we're at the deep end. Perspective is always important. And what's become clearer over the season and after every press conference with Klopp is that last season was a peculiar one. And it's taken it's toll on the players not just physically, but mentally. My query with us has been a continuation of our season sequence: high, low, high, low. I no longer saw a mere coincidence. Win the league, struggle to defend it. Almost win every trophy, now struggle to compete. And I initially laid this volatility at the foot of Klopp's philosophy on the game that requires an excess amount of input for the small output achieved. After a season where we compete, we drop like flies afterward. And this time around, we went without a head doctor for 6 months or so... It only made sense that for the intensity we play at on a consistent basis, that we play every single football match available for a club to compete in within Europe. But it's now come at a cost. Unfortunately, you cannot shift an entire 11. We've seen howlers from Van Dijk, Allison and even Mo's gone a little awol at times. Now I just see this season as a basis and prep towards the next. It can be salvaged of course. But not by playing an intense filled, manic pressing game model. We've got Thiago in there for goodness sake. I thought the signing of Naby along with Thiago was a signal to a shift in a more technically possession based model. But rather, we didn't commit to a change and they left on the treatment table for months at a time. We've not really got our money's worth from either of them (in terms of wages). Not only that, but a possession orientated game is what will allow our young attackers/midfielders to thrive. Up until now, all our promising attacking talent have been through the ringer and have suffered career altering injuries. When Guardiola said that he had more belief in Liverpool than Klopp does, he was being awkward and colloquial but there was truth to what he said. For the profile of players we had at our disposal this season, they've been used in the completely wrong way and Guardiola, due to his experience knew that early on. Now we're just carrying an inflated squad onto the finish line waiting to empty all the excess fat. That's the first and in my opinion, most important step needed to be taken before we can start recruiting. For all the praise that Edwards received (rightfully so for very good deals), him and Ward obviously had an idea in mind to shift the profile of players at Liverpool, leaving behind 'Industry' and prioritising 'Technique'. But Klopp's not been able to utilise it and train them accordingly. It's made me seriously think that Edwards/Ward and Klopp have not seen eye to eye which may have caused both their departures and now the handing over of recruiting roles to Klopp. All this has come as a perfect storm this season. But Klopp's got more than enough credit in the bank to given the time, dismissal privileges as well as new funds to get us going again. No tournaments on this summer. It's going to be a clean pre-season, which is Klopp's favourite time of the year and where he displays his world class ability as a trainer. And... if our season sequence is anything to go by, we should expect a much different Liverpool next season.

Nice bait

That's quite a high ratio lol

? I don't know why you're being hostile here haha, it's clear to see Salah is NOWHERE as good as he has been before but like Halaand he can find himself in position to score. You are fine to disagree but take it down a notch son. Antony is our 2nd top goalscorer (tied) but he hasn't been all that great
avatar
Let’s be totally honest here, Mo hasn’t been anywhere near his best this season.
avatar
For everyone criticizing Gakpo, Gakpo is not a lone striker, he can either play on the left wing or as a left striker in a striker-duo team, but yes one thing his he needs to improve is his pressing We just need Jota back so he can play on the 9, Gakpo on the left wing with Luis Diaz, Nunez and Bobby as potential backups and our frontline will be fine Only thing we really need is a high quality centre mid who can run up and down the field, recover the ball and also create chances and put some dangerous input to our attacking play (hopefully it will be Bellingham) and that's what I've been saying from the begin of the season

the 6th best scottish player on fifa i am surprised he has never ever had an international scottish cap
avatar
I do not care about the state of our midfield I will never not be entertained by a late game James Milner sub for some classic West Yorkshire shithousery, the fucker could be 49 years old and could chase a fucking Lion down.
avatar
Lad's going to blow Lloris' mind when he tells him keepers are allowed to save penalties.
avatar
few takeaways -bajcetic is special. yea, we said that about others in the past, but this guy might be a starter in a few seasons for liverpool and spain -the only bad naby performance i can remember off the top of my head is madrid away. other than that, when he plays, we win -elliott is talented, it's ridiculous people were giving him stick for other's mistakes -as soon as the subs were made, we lost it -doak has so much confidence, another great talent -milner was decent -if henderson and fab start against chelsea, i don't know what i'll do
